This week sees the end of an era at BalCC with the retirement of teachers, Norma Higgins and Jenny Jones.

Mrs Jones started as a CRT in 2001, graduated to homeroom teacher with the Preps and followed them for the next couple of years. She also taught specialist subjects, teacher-aide roles and completed with Music and Performances.

Mrs Higgins has taught at all year levels as a CRT, homeroom and specialist teacher in a variety of subjects and in 2001/2002 was Acting Principal.

Over the last 16-20 years the pair have experienced a number of name changes from Sebastopol Christian Community School to Ballarat Christian School with the final name change to Ballarat Christian College.

Some extra -curricular events both have been involved with is providing an after school Cooking Club where students made scones, chicken burgers, pizzas and lots more, before school care, lunch time prayer meetings and homework clubs. Mrs Jones was also involved with the PALS program (pupils adopting loving seniors) where she took some students to nursing homes to talk with and entertain residents. Mrs Higgins also organised an activity afternoon that included parents and teaching staff.

The verses in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 are very meaningful to both teachers, especially verse 1 which reads: ‘”There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:”

We wish Mrs Higgins and Mrs Jones God’s richest blessings in this new season of their lives and thank them for their many contributions to BalCC.
