The Haddon Concert Band recently presented Year 9 student, Jack with a brand new tenor saxophone. Jack, along with his brothers – Zachariah, Year 11 and Harry, Year 7 perform in the Haddon Concert Band. As well as performing in the BalCC concert and stage bands – Allegro and Crescendo on a variety of instruments. It’s wonderful to see the talents of our BalCC musicians being used in the wider community.

The Haddon Concert Band matched a grant amount provided by the Golden Plain Shire to purchase the saxophone, which Jack will be able to use during his time with the band. The band also made improvements to Zachariah’s drum kit and presented a saxophone to another band member.

The Haddon Concert Band was established in 1995. Its members are a diverse group of people with a wide range of ages and musical talent. They come together from Haddon and surrounding districts including Ballarat, with the aim of having fun playing music in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The band has a number of regular playouts each year including the Lions Club Veteran Car Rally, Haddon ANZAC Day Memorial service, Ballarat Bridge Mall Christmas entertainment, Smythesdale Carols By Candlelight, The Maryborough New Year’s Day Highland Festival and The Meadow Gardens Retirement Home concerts.

Rehearsals are held at the Haddon Lions Club Hall on Tuesday nights from 7:15 pm until 9:30 pm.

BalCC students and parents are reminded that the Allegro (Junior concert band) practice is each Monday from 8:00-8:45am, and the Crescendo (Senior stage band) practice is each Wednesday from 1:10-1:50pm. Please contact Music teacher, Alan Kirkman for more information regarding the bands.
