During the course of this year BalCC students have participated in constructing, and training to ride, human powered and electric vehicles on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons as part of the South Star Warriors program (SSW). This year the SSW team will be competing for the seventh time in the annual RACV Energy Breakthrough Challenge in Maryborough, from Wednesday, 22nd November to Sunday, 26th November 2017.

At the event, our students will be involved in presenting the features of their constructed, human powered vehicle, hybrid powered vehicle and energy efficient vehicle to a panel of judges and will also participate in either riding or the maintenance of them during an 8-hour ‘Try-Athlon’ and a 24-hour Hybrid and Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) race at Maryborough.

The 24 hour Endurance race starts at 1:00pm on Saturday 25th November and concludes at 1:00pm on Sunday 26th November on the RACV Track. For parents/carers who have attended previous events, please note that the 24 hour Endurance race has been moved to the RACV track and our SSW pits will be located at the top end of the RACV track.

Over the 24 hour period of the main endurance race, we hope to have a sheltered pit area set aside for spectators. We ask that parents and visitors do not enter the actual pit area during the race.

We invite parents and visitors to come and visit throughout the period of time we are at Maryborough and encourage you to come and experience this unique event that attracts over 8,000 visitors during the four days.

Keep a look out for our BalCC teardrop banners at our campsites and pit areas. We are just one of the 380 plus teams competing!

If you plan on visiting please refer to the information and map that are posted on the BalCC calendar in Parent Lounge.

Thank you to all the staff and parents who have assisted with SSW this year, in particular teachers, Glen Strange and Andrew Kynoch. Go South Star Warriors.
