Our Vision:

    We will provide:
  • a comprehensive education system from the Preparatory Year to Year 12.
  • Christian-based foundational living and learning, helping our students develop to their full potential academically, spiritually, physically, emotionally and socially
  • quality education which provides thorough teaching in a broad range of disciplines
  • a Christian environment of faith, love and sharing
  • a focus for Christian families of various denominations, helping promote unity among the Body of Christ
  • a Bible-based alternative to secular education
  • welfare practices, curriculum and physical facilities which honour God through compliance with various legislation

Our Mission:

Ballarat Christian College exists to provide Christian education which helps each student find the will of God for his or her life, and to provide for each student thehuman and practical resources, the environment, the encouragement and the opportunities to develop those gifts and talents, to the end that each student will respond to and fulfil the call of God in his or her life.

Quality:

Successful learning is managed learning. Our teachers know what progress each student is making, what difficulties he/she is facing, and are always there to encourage and help. All staff are dedicated, committed and highly trained.

Caring:

There is a sense of family and belonging in the College. Students are taught to support their home and be Godly in their thinking and in their lives. Respect for parents and fellow students is emphasised. All teachers take a special interest in their students' well-being. Students are encouraged to care for others help. All staff are dedicated, committed and highly trained.

Christian Education:

Christian Education is seeing the world from God's point of view. The Bible is central to our curriculum. Teachers teach from a Biblical perspective. Students are taught to measure all knowledge against the truth of God’s Word. Our College provides an education where the home, the church and the school speak with one unified voice in education and life. Students are secure - not confused by the presentation of competing world views or diverse moral standards.

Why Christian Education?

At Ballarat Christian College, the children are encouraged to:
  • Seek God's will for their lives
  • Fulfil their destiny; find God’s purpose and direction for their lives.
  • Discover their giftings, develop them and use them

God is placed at the centre of our learning, our lifestyle and our worldview. We place an eternal perspective on the curriculum.

At Christian schools, the students are taught to respect, honour and obey their parents. The Godly principles their parents teach them are supported by the school.

Children are taught Biblical creation - that God made the world and everything in it.

Education in Christian schools is seen as developing the whole child. Your child's spirit will be nurtured and nourished too, not just his/her body and soul.

Over the last 40 years, Australia has changed from a Christian society based on Biblical values to a secular society based on humanist ideals and values. Thesen ideals are strongly promoted in our wider society. To counteract this children need godly input from Christian mentors. At Ballarat Christian College the teachers work to teach Godly principles and be Godly role models for the students.

One of the most noticeable features of teaching in a Christian school is the growth of the personalities of Christian children when they enter a school where they no longer have to be defensive about their way of life, language and morals. Many quiet, introspective children become much more outgoing. Conversely many children who have adopted bad behaviour, or attention seeking as defence mechanisms, become better adjusted when there is no longer the pressure to impress their peers.

Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care

Steve Shaw

Steve joined us in 2008 through the National Chaplaincy Scheme, funded by the Australian Government.  Steve is married with five children and is the pastor of Heritage Baptist Church in Alfredton, Ballarat.  He has been involved in ministry for sixteen years, originally starting as a youth pastor in Sydney.  In the past five years Steve has worked in schools as a woodwork teacher, technical drawing teacher and now as a chaplain.

Rob Ferguson

Married with one son, Rob has been an ordained Anglican minister since 1992, and has taught in secondary schools since 2000.  He has experience working with young people through government welfare agencies, schools and churches.  He is currently ministering to the Anglican churches in Snake Valley & Linton.  Rob is credited with introducing the Certificate Level 3 Christian Studies course into Ballarat Christian College.

Liz Bailey

Liz, a grandmother, has two adult sons, both involved in ministry.  As a pastor's wife, and now herself a pastor, she has been ministering with her husband since 1973, currently at the Ballarat Christian Fellowship church.  Liz is an experienced school teacher in both government and Christian schools.  A widely-read researcher and gifted communicator, she has helped men, women and children both locally and internationally to find answers for everyday living.

At Ballarat Christian College, we believe that God’s plan for all people is to live full lives, discovering daily what it means to be in relationship with God, each other, the world around us and with ourselves.  The way we live our lives is our response to God – this is our true worship (Romans 12:1-2).  Pastoral care is concerned with helping students to grow to maturity in these four relationships under God.

Every member of our staff is a part of our pastoral care team.  Teachers are often the first point of contact with students and it is not uncommon for them to be found talking and praying through an issue with a student.  As Christians, members of staff have a holistic concern for the progress and welfare of all of our students.  Parents are encouraged to speak first to their child’s teacher if they have any concerns about their son or daughter.

We are fortunate to have a team of three pastors on staff. Liz Bailey in the Junior School and Rob Ferguson in the Senior School are involved in pastoring churches in the Ballarat region, and bring a range of experience and training to the task of providing Christian education and chapel ministry for our students.  Our newest member of the team, Chaplain Steve Shaw, provides counselling and spiritual support for students and parents of the College.  Parents are invited to contact Steve should they wish to take advantage of his services.
