| Art - Unit 3 This unit focuses on making personal art responses through a broad and innovative investigation including exploration and experimentation within selected art form(s) and/or media. Throughout the unit students will develop and refine a sustained body of work. Students are introduced to the frameworks to interpret artworks produced before and since 1970. The frameworks will be used to respond critically to artworks, to interpret their meanings and messages and as a basis of comparisons between them. Art - Unit 4 This unit focuses on the preparation and final presentation of ideas developed and refined from the visual directions explored in unit 3. The resolution of the student’s ideas may be through innovative and exploratory visual solutions and/or through more finished artworks. As well, students evaluate ideas, issues and arguments expressed in commentaries on art, apply interpretive frameworks, critically view artworks and develop personal points of view.
Certificate 3 in Christian Studies The Certificate III in Christian Studies comprises 13 modules that seek to engage students in mature reflection and learning in the four areas of biblical studies, theology, apologetics and discipleship. In the final year of this course students complete the remaining four modules of the certificate: BE1A (Principles of exegesis); BE1B (Book Study); CD1F (Personal reflections) and OT1A (Old Testament – Beginnings). English - Unit 3 The focus of this unit is on reading and responding both orally and in writing to a range of texts. Students analyse how the authors of texts create meaning and the different ways in which texts can be interpreted. They also develop competence in creating written texts by exploring ideas suggested by their reading within the chosen Context, and the ability to explain choices they have made as authors. For 2008 at Ballarat Christian College the chosen Context is Identity and Belonging. The Areas of Study include : 1. Reading and Responding 2. Creating and Presenting 3. Using Language to Persuade English - Unit 4 The focus of this unit is on reading and responding in writing to a range of texts in order to analyse their construction and provide an interpretation. Students also create written or multimodal texts suggested by their reading within the chosen Context and explain creative choices they have made as authors in relation to form, purpose, language, audience and context. For 2008 at Ballarat Christian College the chosen Context is Identity and Belonging. The Areas of Study include : 1. Reading and Responding 2. Creating and Presenting
Health and Human Development - Unit 3 This unit looks at the diversity of health outcomes that are evident within our population as a result of a range of determinants that include factors such as biology, socio-economic, environment, inherited lifestyle, behaviour, knowledge, attitudes and beliefs. Government and non-government organisations play an important role in the implementation of a range of initiatives designed to promote health and development for all and students will investigate a range of these in detail.
Mathematics (Further) - Unit 3 Data Analysis (Core): This area of study covers the presentation, summary, description and analysis of univariate and bivariate sample data. In addition, the Number Patterns area of study will by addressed through and Application module titled Number Patterns. Mathematics (Further) - Unit 4 This unit will see the study of a further two Application Modules: As part of these modules students will be studying the topics of Geometry & Trigonometry and Networks & Decision Maths.
Psychology - Unit 3
This unit focuses on the brain and the nervous system as a whole structure and investigates their role in affecting human behaviour. Brain research methods are examined and different approaches of psychology are integrated in a study of visual perception and states of consciousness. Consideration of ethical principles in the conduct of psychological research and practice is included. Psychology - Unit 4 In this unit students study cognitive psychological methods through the concepts of memory and learning. Research methods continue to be integrated within the different methodological approaches to psychology and students apply these methods to different studies and make evaluations of the appropriateness of each model.
Visual Communication and Design - Unit 3 Students develop visual communication through the application of the design process to satisfy specific communication needs. Students look at the production of visual communication in a profession setting, learning to evaluate examples of visual communications. Visual Communication and Design - Unit 4 Students learn to prepare a design brief that defines the needs of a client. The students then apply the design process producing developmental work and two final presentations that relate to the brief.
not running in 2009 IT applications - Unit 3 Unit 3 focuses on how individuals or organisations use ICT to solve information problems and to participate actively in a society where use of ICT is commonplace. Students acquire and apply knowledge and skills in solving information problems to assist in decision-making and in managing tasks and timelines. The solutions and information products should meet the specific needs of organisations such as sporting clubs, newsagencies, charities, or the needs of individuals. Students also explore how the capabilities of networked information systems support teams of workers or learners to solve problems and share knowledge. IT applications - Unit 4 This unit focuses on how ICT is used by organisations to solve ongoing information problems and in the strategies to protect the integrity of data and security of information. Students develop and acquire knowledge and skills in creating solutions and information products using spreadsheet software that can be re-used in the future with new sets of data. When solving information problems, students apply all of the problem-solving stages: analysis, design, development, testing, documentation, implementation and evaluation. Students apply their ICT knowledge and skills to record their decision-making strategies when solving information problems and to reflect on the effectiveness of these strategies. In this unit students explore how organisations manage the storage, communication and disposal of data and information in order to minimise threats to the integrity of data and security of information, and to optimise efficient information handling.
Physical Education - Unit 3 The first area of focus is on participation patterns in physical activity and the National Physical Activity guidelines, with students assessing their own or others’ activity levels. Settings based models and strategies are also used to explain physical activity promotion. The second area of focus looks at providing energy for physical activity as well as fatigue and recovery mechanisms. Physical Education – Unit 4 The first area of focus is on the planning and evaluation of training programs to enhance physical fitness. The second area of focus is on the evaluation of practices and/or strategies that are used in conjunction with each other to enhance sports performance.
