The students visited Red Door Pizzeria , where they explored the Italian cuisine of wood-fired pizzas. This included a Q&A with the owner and head chef, Trevor Whitworth and they experienced throwing their own pizza dough base. They then got to top the pizza with the toppings of their choice, watch it cook in the wood-fired oven, and enjoy eating it with their classmates for lunch.
Then the students headed over to Chocolatto , a café that embraces the Italian combination of coffee & chocolate! Chocolatto specialises in ‘bean to bar’ chocolate, which means that the beans are traceable from their origins according to Fair Trade and sustainable standards. The owner and head barista, Zachary Curran talked to the students about why Fair Trade is important - for caring for people and caring for our environment - and prepared samples of a variety of different chocolates from different origins before the students got to choose their own hot chocolate drink to enjoy.
