The Year 6 students from our College have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. The students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards the cost of sending our Year 6’s to Canberra. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. We are grateful for this assistance and acknowledge the privilege and purpose of this in the light of our excursion to and from Canberra from March 4-8 during Term 1, 2019.
It was a wonderful opportunity for our students and they were fully engaged in the ‘Civics and Citizenship’ teaching and learning experiences provided at each of the key venues throughout their time in Canberra. Here are a few photographs that depict our Year 6 students enjoying learning about our voting system and how our government runs. It was an extremely valuable educational learning experience for the students.
