On Wednesday the Primary students took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
This year’s book was Alpacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove. To celebrate the theme of the book students had a visit by two alpacas from Creswick Woollen Mills . Alpacas Millhouse and Chief visited with Farmer Cameron Torresi, who spoke with students about the care and handling of alpacas before giving each class an opportunity to feed the alpacas.
Students returned to class to hear the reading of the Alpacas with Maracas , which was delivered with flair in a video recording by Year 5 teacher Mr Kynoch, who dressed in sombrero and poncho!
Now in its 19th successful year NSS is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6. The annual event is organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
