Fed Uni Discovery Day 2019

The Year 10 Industry & Enterprise students recently attended an event known as the Federation University Discovery Day.

Discovery Day has been running at the SMB Campus for a number of years. Students experience a range of hands-on TAFE activities in a relaxed expo style environment within FedUni TAFE’s Manufacturing and Engineering Skills Centre, located in Grant Street at the SMB Campus.

Areas of interest include: 3D animation, agriculture, automotive, bakery, community services, cookery/ patisserie, bricklaying, cabinet making, carpentry, conservation & land management, early childhood education & care, electro-technology, engineering, food science, graphic design, hairdressing, beauty therapy, horticulture, meat processing, nursing, painting & decorating, plumbing and writing and editing.

Students were able to take tours of specialised facilities, see classes in action and engage with current Federation University students and apprentices. Along with these experiences, several short information sessions provided generic information on apprenticeships and traineeships.

The program included activities such as: measuring blood pressure, braiding hair, express manicures, children’s and community services activities, hygiene and sanitation, responding to workplace emergencies, preparing wontons, cooking crepes, business and IT activities, fashion design, music, welding, plant propagation, sheep husbandry, bricklaying, plumbing, joinery and much more.
