Year 7-9 students were recently involved in a two day Girls in STEM program at Ballarat Tech School.

STEM is a curriculum- based program on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Girls in STEM program is structured with two consecutive program days, in each term in 2019, which will be a combination of industry tours, guest speakers, skill-based workshops and applied hands-on learning to support girls in exploring their STEM pathways within an industry area.

The Term 1 program allows students to experience the process of industrial design from concept through to prototyping a product. The students were able to visit Bartlett Manufacturing to hear about the manufacturing sector and view computer aided design technology in action, which enables repeatable and precise product development for clients.

Around sixty girls from seventeen schools across the Ballarat region attended the Term 1 Girls in STEM program, which aims to create new pathways through an understanding of the breadth and depth in jobs.
