The Year 7-9 female students recently had the opportunity to attend the Term 2 Girls in STEM program at the Ballarat Tech School.

STEM is a curriculum-based program on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The program is fully coordinated by Ballarat Tech School and the BalCC students had the opportunity to link with like-minded female students from across the Ballarat Schools.

The Girls in STEM program is structured with two consecutive program days, in each term in 2019, which will be a combination of industry tours, guest speakers, skill-based workshops and applied hands-on learning to support girls in exploring their STEM pathways within an industry area.

Over two days students developed their awareness and understanding of the importance of water locally and globally. Students were introduced to the skills required to work in these areas including laboratory, environmental science, mapping, data analysis and planning. The students visited the various water processing plants in Ballarat including the White Swan Reservoir, Central Highlands Water and the Ballarat North Water Reclamation Plant.
