The LEC is a hub providing targeted assistance for students with additional needs, extension groups, students requiring literacy and numeracy support, and gifted and talented programs.

The LEC can also be used for staff and parent training sessions, as a venue for therapy services, welfare support, and private study spaces. The purpose of the LEC is to assist all students accessing its services to achieve better educational outcomes.

Elev8 & Extend Learning Program

The Elev8 and Extend Learning program has been running at BalCC for several years and caters for the needs of Gifted and Talented students. The program is run by Miss Beth Simonis, Primary Elev8 Teacher & Program Coordinator, and Secondary Elev8 Teacher, Mrs Amelia Weir. The program is designed for students who are working 12 months or more ahead of their expected level of achievement in the key learning areas of English and/or Mathematics. The program assists classroom teachers to provide learning opportunities to extend students and works directly with identified students in small withdrawal groups on a weekly basis.

Miss Beth Simonis will communicate directly with parents and carers whose children have been identified to partake in the program. Participation in the program is based upon school assessment and observation and does not require students or parents to apply to be part of the program.
